SASSA Grant Dates Moved: Pensioners Paid on 30 October

SASSA Grant Dates Moved

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has moved its November 2026 payment dates, and older persons will now receive their grants on Friday, 30 October, before the month even begins. The change was made so payments do not clash with the 4 November local government elections, which fall on a public holiday.

The new schedule has also fed confusion online, including claims that pensioners "will get nothing" in November. Here is what the schedule actually says and how to plan around it.

Key facts

  • Older Persons Grant: Friday, 30 October 2026.
  • Disability Grant: Monday, 2 November 2026.
  • Children's grants: Tuesday, 3 November 2026.
  • An additional date, Thursday, 5 November, is set aside for beneficiaries whose grants are in the review process.
  • National Treasury approved the revised schedule, announced by SASSA on 14 and 15 October.
  • The Older Persons Grant pays R2,400 a month for people aged 60 and over.

What changed and why

SASSA originally published its 2026/27 payment dates in March. For November, they were 3 November for older persons, 4 November for disability grants and 5 November for children's grants. The disability date fell on Election Day, which President Cyril Ramaphosa has declared a public holiday. SASSA wrote to National Treasury, and after consultations with stakeholders the revised schedule was approved.

SASSA spokesperson Dr Paseka Letsatsi said the changes were meant to keep payments efficient and secure with minimal disruption around the election period. He added that beneficiaries should be able to use their cards at retailers and banks once payments are made.

The claim that pensioners get nothing in November

Some online posts claim older persons will receive no money in November. That is misleading. The November payment has not been cancelled. It has been paid earlier, on 30 October. What changes is that no older persons payment will fall inside November itself, so the money you receive on 30 October is your November money and needs to last until your next payment date.

SASSA's announcement covers November only. Beneficiaries should wait for the agency's confirmed December date rather than relying on social media posts.

What this means for you

Plan your budget from 30 October. Treat that payment as your money for the whole of November and the early days of December. If you can, set aside funds for the last week of the month before you do your first big shop.

You get the money before the weekend. Because 30 October is a Friday, grant recipients can access their money over the weekend, instead of waiting for a Monday or Tuesday.

Know your amounts. Current November amounts are R2,400 for older persons, disability and care dependency grants, R1,300 for the foster child grant and R580 for the child support and grant-in-aid grants.

Beware of old schedules. Images of the original 3, 4 and 5 November dates are still circulating and are now out of date. SASSA urges beneficiaries to rely on its official channels and to be wary of misinformation.

If your money is late. If you have not been paid within two to three business days of your date, contact SASSA on 0800 60 10 11 or visit your nearest office. SASSA has asked people not to visit offices unnecessarily before payment day.
